TexasSure: The Texas Insurance Verification Program

How TexasSure works, why you may have received a warning letter, and what to do if your coverage isn't showing up.

TexasSure is a statewide database that cross-checks vehicle registrations against insurance carrier records every week. It's how Texas catches uninsured drivers without needing a traffic stop.

How verification works

Every Texas-licensed insurer transmits weekly policy data to a central database. The system matches policies to registered vehicles by VIN. Mismatches trigger warnings or registration holds.

Why coverage may not show

  • New policy not yet transmitted (usually resolves in 7–14 days)
  • VIN typo on either the policy or registration
  • Vehicle registered under one name, insured under another
  • Lender added to title but not to policy

If you receive a warning letter

  1. Verify the VIN on both your registration and your insurance card
  2. Call your agent — they can confirm transmission and re-submit if needed
  3. Save the letter and any corrections in case of a future stop

Registration holds

Repeated non-compliance leads to a hold on registration renewal. You can't renew tags until the system shows valid coverage.
