Teen Driver Premium Estimator

Adding a teen driver typically increases a household premium 50–100%. The exact number depends on the teen's gender, vehicle assignment, and discounts.

Formula

New premium ≈ Base premium × (1.5 to 2.0) − applicable teen discounts (good student, driver's ed, telematics).

How to use it

  1. Start with your current annual premium
  2. Multiply by 1.5 for a female teen, 1.8–2.0 for a male teen
  3. Subtract 10–25% for good student discount
  4. Subtract 5–10% for driver's ed completion
  5. Assign teen to the lowest-value vehicle to minimize the increase

Worked example

Current premium $1,800. Adding 16-year-old son: 1.9× = $3,420. Good student (−15%) and driver's ed (−7%) = $2,668.
