Formula
New premium ≈ Base premium × (1.5 to 2.0) − applicable teen discounts (good student, driver's ed, telematics).
How to use it
- Start with your current annual premium
- Multiply by 1.5 for a female teen, 1.8–2.0 for a male teen
- Subtract 10–25% for good student discount
- Subtract 5–10% for driver's ed completion
- Assign teen to the lowest-value vehicle to minimize the increase
Worked example
Current premium $1,800. Adding 16-year-old son: 1.9× = $3,420. Good student (−15%) and driver's ed (−7%) = $2,668.
